Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer a futuristic concept—it is actively transforming governance, economies, and societies across the globe. For West Africa, the stakes are high. While the region is rapidly adopting AI—from Nigeria’s fintech boom to Ghana’s flourishing tech ecosystem—governance frameworks have often struggled to keep pace.
To bridge this critical gap, the Lawyers Hub, in partnership with the Africa AI Policy Lab and GIMPA Law School, hosted a landmark two-day intensive training program in Accra, Ghana, on November 24th–25th, 2025.
This inaugural AI Summer School marked an intentional shift for the region, establishing West Africa as a proactive leader capable of shaping, rather than merely following, the global AI discourse.
A Collaborative Roadmap for the Future
The Summer School was designed to equip key stakeholders with the essential skills and insights needed to build an AI future that benefits all of Africa. The program brought together a diverse group of experts:
Policymakers & Judicial Officers: Focused on co-developing governance roadmaps that align with continental frameworks, such as the African Union AI Strategy, ensuring our legal systems are prepared for technological disruption.
Lawyers & Researchers: Explored regional policy challenges to help shape ethical, contextually relevant AI laws and research agendas that reflect African values.
Technologists: Gained vital insights into the regulatory landscape, ensuring that innovation remains responsible, beneficial, and compliant with emerging standards.
Relive the Summer School: Recordings Now Available!
